Gillette Commercial

So this week we got to be part of a massive international Gillette campaign.

The commercial is for the Gillette Fusion Razor and the actors are all sports stars - now the thing with sports stars is that they are never all in the same place especially if they are big stars. To top things off each major region and country is getting their own special commercial with their local sports star.

Our commercial is for Australia and has a famous Australian Cricketer in it (I'm not sure if I'm at liberty to say who and that's why there are no pictures of him - sorry) Now the two guys in blue will be replaced by the magic of post production by Tiger Woods and Roger Federer once their parts of the commercial have been shot, where ever they are in the world at the time...

Once all the footage has been assembled from different continents and countries it will be put together to make the finished product - Digital Domain is the post production company that will need to manage this task.

To make things more difficult for them there is hardly any continuity except for reference photos and information being passed on from DOP to DOP (Things like lens sizes, inclination, subject's distance from camera, film stock etc...) But there is no mandate - the different commercials will have different directors and DOP's so they are at liberty to choose different film stock, lenses, lighting etc... Making thing quite tricky for Digital Domain I would imagine - but there you go.

We were able to shoot all our work with out Famous Australian Cricketer in 5 hours and we spent the afternoon shooting him at age 5 with a child actor - this footage will be aged to make it look like 8mm or home video footage from the 80's

We filmed everything on 35mm (Arri) and most shots were 50fps with a 90ยบ Shutter to give more clarity and hopefully help Digital Domain as much as possible (The 50fps will allow the action to be slowed down if need be, but it can still be played back at normal speed).

Getting that 80's look & feel
